Day 1 -2013

Wow, what a day! The morning started very early!  Ricky, Joe, and myself pulled out of the church parking lot and headed toward the Nashville airport a little after 2:30 this morning (many thanks to Grant Bartelt for driving us!) Ray and Emily were leaving about the same time but flying out of Huntsville.

All in all we had a good day of travel. Our flight to Miami was a little late getting to the gate which made us have to rush to make our next plane, but everything worked out just fine.  After clearing Customs we were met with a wonderfully warm greeting from our Honduran friends.

After getting settled into the Hotel Excelsior, we made a quick stop for some good 'ole American fast food.
And then it was off to the clinic to begin preparing food bags.  Thanks to the over whelming  generosity of everyone who donated, we were able to purchase enough food for over 300 bags! Plus, for the first time ever, we included some garden seed in each bag as well.

This was the stack of food that greeted us when we arrived at the clinic.

We quick formed assembly lines and began to separate the food / seed.

A list of everything included in the bags:
And a note explaining that the bags are give by the church of Christ in the Valley of the Angles.
What over 300 food bags look like!

Needless to say everyone is exhausted. But we are all very excited to be here! Tomorrow we hope to begin construction on a new classroom at the church building. We are expecting plenty of volunteers from the congregation so hopefully the building will go up quickly.
